Why the two answers differ
Paint works by absorbing light. Each paint soaks up part of the spectrum, and a mix soaks up what both do, so it ends up darker. Colored lights each add their own light, so where they overlap it gets brighter. That is why red and green make a dark brown in paint but yellow on a screen.
